Icons Of 1989

In 1989 adidas changed the running scene forever with the invention of Torsion technology and the 4-digit ZX series running silhouettes. With Torsion, adidas was able to build different shoes for different needs of the individual runners easier than before. Problems such as pronation and supination were solved by the way the torsion bar rotated and the used materials in the midsole.

Did you know that every Torsion ZX had its special purpose already in the name? ZX6000S and 9000S stood for »Support«, the ZX 7000G for »Guidance« and the ZX 5000C for regular cushioning.

Nowadays, the 4-digit ZX series isn’t about doing your track running but it’s still on top when it comes to sneaker collectors around the globe. Some of the 4-digit ZX silhouettes belong to the most sought after adidas models from the ’80s! That’s why we’re very happy about the retro release of the ZX 5000, 6000, 7000 and 9000 this month.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the 4-digit ZX series this year, we dared to enter a similarly formativ world.

Let us take you back to 1989: Our homie »DJ KITSUNE« has created a mixtape for the release of the adidas ZX 7000 OG which includes the biggest »ICONS OF 1989«. You can find the 7000 model and the mixtape in our online shop from August 24th, 2019.
