Nike Air Jordan 4
In 1984 Nike introduced the Jordan 1 to basketball and sneaker fans, followed by the Jordan 2 and Jordan 3. After the success of the Jordan 3, it was a huge challenge for designer Tinker Hatfield to pick up where he left off, making the Jordan line one of the hottest on the planet. In 1989 the Air Jordan 4 made its debut in the OG colors White Cement, Fire Red, Black Cement and Military Blue. It was the first time that a Jordan model was released worldwide and in fact, looking back, it was an absolute success.
At the All Star Game in Houston, the shoe was worn for the first time by Michael Jordan while scoring 28 points in the game. In the same season, the Chicago Bulls had to play against the Cleveland Cavalieris in the playoffs. Although the Bulls were far from being the team we know today, MJ played his strongest season until then. The Jordan 4 is also known as "The Shot", because when the Bulls played against the Cavs in the playoffs, Jordan sank a game winning shot to cap a strong 44 point game and secure a spot in the semifinals.
The Jordan 4 in a movie
In 1989, the Jordan 4 was worn by Buggin in the movie "Do the right things" directed by Spike Lee. They used this kind of platform to promote the shoe and its diversity. The Jordan 4 was not only an eye-catcher on the playing field, but also continued to be a high status in hip-hop and sneaker culture.
Retro models, collaborations & the design
10 years after the first release of the Jordan 4, Nike brought the first Retros on the market. One of the most famous Jordan 4 Retro models are the White Cement and the Light Graphite. But also collaborations with Eminem, Levis or Travis Scott have caused a worldwide sensation and increased the popularity of the shoe.
The basic design has remained the same and is thus reminiscent of its predecessor. Both models are equipped with an Air Max sole, the Nike Air logo on the heel and the Jumpman logo on the shoe tongue, which strongly reminds of the Jordan 3. In order to increase the performance of the shoe, the upper of the Jordan 4 was partially processed with a plastic mesh to make the shoe lighter than its predecessors.
How does the Jordan 4 fit?
The fit of the Jordan 4 is based on the Jordan 1, even if it is a bit chunkier, and is true to size. The Nike Air Jordan 4 is an absolute must-have for both men and women due to the wide range of colors!
