Nike Daybreak
30 years after its debut, Nike brings the Daybreak back to the streets. This sneaker is a gold medal winner, vintage missile, and perhaps THE collabo secret. The Nike Daybreak impresses with its iconic waffle sole and the clean silhouette - a must for all retro lovers!
Nike Daybreak – The sneaker with a winner gene
The year was 1984 - August 5 to be exact - when the first international marathon for women took place. And probably no one will forget Joan Benoit's legendary run across the finish line. Joan Benoits (now Joan Samuelson) changed the running world for women forever! She took the lead after only 14 minutes and never gave it up. After 42.75 km, the US-American won this groundbreaking race with a 400 m lead. Her time: 2:24:52 - faster than 13 of the last 20 winners in the men's race. Benoit ran straight into the history books and left her mark on the world of sports. You can guess three times who accompanied her on this 42.75 km? The Nike Daybreak!
The sleek silhouette included a number of innovative features. Designed especially for the long-distance runner, the Daybreak featured a nylon upper, a waffle outsole, and a synthetic heel clip designed to slow pronation. The waffle sole was inspired by, who would have guessed, a waffle iron. Nike co-founder Bill Bowermann came up with the idea while having breakfast with his family. To this day, the Waffle outsole provides a high level of grip suitable for a variety of terrains and become more resistant over time.
Comeback des Nike Daybreak
Some 30 years later, the sporting goods manufacturer is bringing back the Daybreak. And Nike stays true to the tradition of the Daybreak: eye-catching colorways and a combination of suede and nylon mesh are reminders of the legendary design from 1984. The Swoosh is made out of leather, just like back then, and differs in color from the rest of the shoe. For fans of the Internationalistt, the Nike Daybreak is a must-have on the shoe shelf.
The Daybreak receives several updates
As part of the experimental "N.354" collection, Nike presents the Daybreak Type »N.354«. The new edition convinces with a strong deconstructed look and combines the classic DNA with modern innovation. The "N.354" stands equally for the past, the present and the future. With a functional mix of mesh, suede and leather, you can see through the upper.
Another highlight in the Daybreak line is collaboration with Juan Takahashi and his brand Undercover. In his hands, the Daybreak was equipped with an extended heel clip and a speckled midsole. With different colorways and the eye-catching design, Undercover has once again given the Daybreak a whole new personality.
This collaboration is perhaps THE insider's pick in recent times. Real sneaker heads are practically tearing themselves around the LDV Waffle Daybreak. In collaboration with Japanese high fashion brand sacai, designer Chitose Abe united two iconic Nike shoes in a hybrid design. This silhouette combines the Nike LDV and the Waffle Racer in one shoe. Typical of sacai: double laces, midsoles, tongues and swooshes with Nike x sacai co-branding on the heel tab.
