The history of the revolutionary running shoe!

Back in 2013, adidas launched the first running shoe with the BOOST sole. With the help of the Ludwigshafen-based company BASF, the adidas Energy BOOST was born. However, the brand did not release the first UltraBOOST until two years later. Since 2015, you can buy the popular UltraBOOST from adidas under the slogan "Best running shoe ever". And in the meantime it has become more than that: not only joggers and athletes rely on the silhouette, but the UltraBOOST has also found its place in the lifestyle sector. To date, the UltraBoost has been able to bring adidas huge success. Over time, several new models have been created that are based on the UltraBoost and also rely on the 100% BOOST sole for the material and have Primeknit on the upper. In recent years, adidas has reinvented the successful model again and again, so that today we have already arrived at the fourth generation of the UltraBoost, the so-called UltraBoost 4.0. In addition to the different model versions, there is now also a large selection of different colorways. What is the technology behind the BOOST sole?

The Ludwigshafen-based company BASF has developed an expanded thermoplastic polyurethane. This so-called E-TPU is visually very reminiscent of Styrofoam and helps ensure that the shoe has high abrasion resistance, high tensile strength and excellent durability. So far, the E-TPU has only been used for the midsole and is named BOOST because, according to adidas, it stores and simultaneously releases energy with every step. Even in the popular Yeezys, BOOST technology is hiding. Like the UltraBoost, the special technology finds its place in the midsole, but hidden under an eye-catching design. Designed by controversial rapper Kanye West, there is hardly a more hyped sneaker model from adidas on the market right now. What is the Primeknit Upper of the UltraBOOST all about?

In 2012, the first adidas sneaker with a primeknit upper celebrated its premiere. Astrid Lang and Stefan Tamm from the adidas shoe development team had only 12 months to develop and perfect the Primeknit Upper. But what actually is this primeknit? Primeknit is the upper material that finds use on many different adidas models. Because it is knitted from a single piece, the shoe is able to fit perfectly to the foot, whereas traditional sneakers are sewn together from multiple materials. The Primeknit Upper is without a doubt considered one of the most comfortable materials a sneaker can have, as a perfect fit is always given by the elastic fabric. But not only the comfortable wearing comfort has convinced many customers, but also the daring futuristic look of the shoe animates many sneaker fans and sports maniacs to buy again and again.
