Nike Waffle Trainer 2
The Waffle Trainer 2 is just the right sneaker for all the retro lovers out there! The silhouette heavily reminds of the original from 1977 with a moccasin-inspired upper and a waffle out-sole. Modern updates include a memory-foam sockliner and a dual-density foam mid-sole.
The original from 1977
In 1972, Nike legend Bill Bowerman filed a patent for "an athletic shoe suitable for use on artificial grass." To create the studded sole, Bowerman used a waffle iron - thus the name. The result was revolutionary at the time, and the running shoes shone with incredible traction. The waffle iron process would be applied to a number of shoe models as it itself went through its own evolutionary changes. The Waffle Trainer 2 may not really be present from a sneaker-culture perspective, although a pair of vintage Waffle Trainers in this OG navy/red were spotted on none other than Frank Ocean a few years back.
Now that some running silhouettes like the Daybreak and Challenger OG have already made their comeback and established themselves as lifestyle sneakers, the Waffle Trainer 2 is the next candidate. Unobtrusive classics are in demand like never before!
The Waffle Trainer 2 with its new details
The lightweight nylon upper is adorned with multiple suede overlays that not only look stylish, but also provide stability in the shoe. Nike's familiar open foam tongue and vintage logo on the tongue give the sneaker a true retro vibe. The Waffle outsole has been enhanced with a dual-density foam mid-sole with a wedge shape, as well as a memory foam insole.
The colorways round out the Waffle Trainer silhouette perfectly. Nike's "Midnight Navy" colorway with energetic accents in "Max Orange" or "Starfish Orange" with contrasts in black and white are irresistible!
