Kansas City Chiefs vs. Miami Dolphins – Frankfurt Games 2023 – Recap

The top game of the NFL International Games has been decided! The Superbowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs won the game and thus the second regular season game ever played on German soil.

A total of 50,023 spectators watched the duel of the two Superbowl title contenders live in the sold-out Waldstadion.

Before the game, the atmosphere outside the stadium was electric. In addition to American delicacies like BBQ, there were also German classics like »Kochkäse« and, of course, German beer. DJ and volume battles between fans, the Chiefs’ marching band and many raffles heated up the atmosphere outside the stadium.

Chiefs fans were clearly in the majority, but Dolphins fans were also well represented. But as we all know from the International Games in Munich last year, the stadium was still completely colorful and all NFL teams were represented by their fans.

The German national anthem, sung by musician Gregor Hägele, was followed by the kickoff. Less than three minutes into the game, the first touchdown was scored on the first offensive possession, followed quickly by two more. Despite a turnover by Pat Mahomes, a highlight for all Chiefs fans followed. Chiefs safety Bryan Cook returned a fumble nearly 60 yards into the end zone to give his team a 21:0 lead at the half. The Dolphins‘ highly touted offense, led by quarterback Tua Tagovaiola and star receiver Tyreek Hill, was sweating profusely.

But it wasn’t all quiet at halftime. In addition to the typical American entertainment, such as the kiss cam in the stadium, there was the well-promoted halftime show by Nico Santos and Kontra K. Together with the cheerleaders and the Kansas City Chiefs marching band, the two performed a medley of their all-time classics. An absolute highlight in the stadium.

Kickoff of the second half

The Dolphins came out strong in the second half and showed some grit on offense. A total of two touchdowns by the Fins turned the game around and the end of the game was completely open again, leaving the Chiefs fans shaking in their boots. With the Dolphins on the verge of the end zone and the game tied, Tagovailoa made two huge mistakes that put the game out of reach for the Chiefs.

The stadium went wild and the classic »Take me home, country roads« was sung in the stadium. Just like in Munich, the singing of all the fans and the sea of flashlights gave us goose bumps. The atmosphere was great and even the American presenters and fans were thrilled by the rousing atmosphere at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. An unforgettable experience!

Of course, the stars don’t miss out on a unique experience like the Frankfurt Games. All the big names were at the Eintracht stadium on Sunday to watch the game and experience the special atmosphere: Antoine Griezmann, Knossi, Timo Werner, Kool Savas, Vincent Weiss, Noel Robinson, Alix Earle, Bausa, Christoph Kramer and also Mario Götze, who even wore our customized NFL Frankfurt Games Air Force 1.
