The Miami Dolphins are currently one of the most prolific teams in the National Football League. As of this season, they are the team with the most total yards in the first 5 games of a season, making them the team with the best offence! Founded in 1966, they have won a place in the hearts of football fans over the years.
The beginnings of the Doplhins
Originally founded by Joe Robbie and Danny Thomas, the »Fins« began as an expansion team in the AFL (American Football League) in 1966 before joining the NFL in 1970. The Dolphins proved to be a competitive team in their early years under coach Don Shula.

The 1970s were undoubtedly the heyday of the Miami Dolphins. With quarterback legend Bob Griese and the famous »no-name defence«, the team reached the Super Bowl three years in a row (1972, 1973 and 1974), winning two of them. In the 1972 season, they did the unthinkable and became the only team in NFL history to complete a perfect season without a loss.
The defence got its name when Tom Landry, then head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, spoke only of the Dolphins’ offence in the Super Bowl, even though their defence was the best in the league.
The 80s and 90s were dominated by legendary quarterback Dan Marino. Marino broke many NFL records and led the Dolphins to numerous playoff appearances, although they did not win a Super Bowl during this time. Nevertheless, Marino is considered one of the undisputed icons in NFL history.
Best chance of winning the Super Bowl
Over the past few years, the Miami Dolphins have worked hard to build on their successful past. With emerging talents such as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, wide receiver Tyreek Hill and dedicated coach Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins have grown into a team that can seriously contend for a Super Bowl title.
