When Sneaker Culture Meets Brewing Tradition

With the PUMA x Rothaus “Tannenzäpfle”, international sports brand PUMA teams up with the historic Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus AG to release a limited-edition model that fuses cult beer and sneaker design.

Inspired by the famous Black Forest Pilsner in its iconic 0.33l bottle, this collab celebrates a true piece of Black Forest culture – transformed into sneaker form.

Founded in 1791 by the Benedictine monastery of St. Blasien near the inn “Zum Rothen Haus” (documented as early as 1681), the Rothaus brewery grew over the centuries into one of Germany’s most renowned breweries – celebrated for quality, character, and a brand unmistakably tied to its origins.

What began deep in the forest has become a symbol of brewing tradition with integrity – independent, regionally rooted, and with a design as unique as its taste.

Through this collaboration, PUMA and Rothaus unite two worlds that may not seem to belong together at first glance – showing how powerfully regional identity, design, and storytelling can merge.

The upper features brown mesh with a textured pinecone-like surface, paired with premium suede overlays in a deep bottle-glass brown. A green Formstrip adds bold contrast, referencing the forest landscape surrounding the Rothaus brewery. The tongue is a true highlight: it reflects the color palette of the iconic Tannenzäpfle label – in pink with an appliqué stripe in purple and blue. On the right tongue sits a woven patch with the label’s signature pinecones, while the left displays “Biergit” – the friendly face of Tannenzäpfle that has stood for Black Forest brewing craftsmanship for generations. Both labels are crowned with the PUMA lettering in Rothaus’ distinctive typography. The insole draws inspiration from a limited “party can” edition of the Tannenzäpfle, bringing the vibrant label design inside the shoe.

Another detail for true connoisseurs: the golden lace tips with embossed pinecone texture. The ultimate surprise lies at the heel: just like the original beer bottle, it comes wrapped in gold foil. When carefully peeled away, it reveals the co-branding of PUMA and Rothaus on the heel tab.

The sneaker is packaged in a special edition box styled after a Rothaus beer crate – complete with logo, typography, and a lovingly crafted retro look.
