VEJA: producing sneakers differently

VEJA was founded by Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion. From the beginning, the idea behind the brand was to take a closer look at how sneakers are made and which raw materials are used. The name VEJA means roughly “look” in Portuguese – which describes the brand’s approach remarkably well.

VEJA works with materials including organic cotton from Brazil and Peru, Amazonian rubber for outsoles, as well as recycled and bio-based materials. VEJA sneakers are currently produced in selected factories in Brazil and Portugal.

Especially with VEJA, this material and production strategy is a direct part of the product identity. The sneakers are not only designed to look clean, but also to show how classic lifestyle silhouettes can be produced using alternative raw materials and more transparent supply chains.

Campo: the clean VEJA classic

The VEJA Campo is one of the brand’s best-known and most versatile silhouettes. Its clean court look is defined by a clear side profile, the signature V logo, and a relatively understated sole construction.

Many Campo versions use ChromeFree leather. This leather is processed using a tanning method designed to reduce the use of certain chemicals. Depending on the version, suede panels, organic cotton, recycled polyester, and Amazonian rubber may also be used.

The Campo works especially well if you’re looking for a clean everyday sneaker. White and neutral versions pair easily with denim, chinos, wide trousers, or minimalist casual looks, while coloured V logos or suede panels add more contrast.

V-90: more volume and retro sportswear

The VEJA V-90 interprets the typical VEJA court look in a more substantial way. Its wider shape, stronger panel structure, and chunkier sole give it more presence than the Campo.

This makes the V-90 particularly suitable for straight- and wide-leg denim, relaxed trousers, and modern casual outfits. Depending on the version, it is available in leather, B-Mesh, and different material combinations. If you like VEJA but want a somewhat stronger and sportier sneaker, the V-90 is the obvious alternative to the Campo.

V-82: slimmer and sportier

The VEJA V-82 sits visually between a classic court sneaker and retro sportswear. Compared with the V-90, the silhouette feels slimmer and less bulky, while remaining noticeably sportier than the minimalist Campo.

This makes the V-82 a strong choice if you’re looking for a low-cut VEJA sneaker with more retro character without moving fully into runner territory. Leather, suede, and contrasting panel versions emphasise this look in different ways depending on the colourway.

Rio Branco: VEJA’s runner side

The VEJA Rio Branco differs clearly from the brand’s cleaner court models. Its silhouette is more strongly inspired by classic retro runners and, depending on the version, uses mesh, Alveomesh, suede, and technical overlays.

This gives the Rio Branco a lighter, more dynamic, and sportier feel than the Campo, V-90, or V-82. It works especially well with relaxed casual looks, nylon or cargo trousers, and outfits where a classic leather court sneaker would feel too clean.

Volley and Panenka: more VEJA silhouettes

Alongside its central models, VEJA offers other lifestyle sneakers with their own design language. The Volley takes on a particularly slim, low-cut court aesthetic and is available in materials including leather and canvas. According to VEJA, the Panenka combines football heritage with urban culture and is offered in versions using leather or suede.

Campo, V-90, V-82 or Rio Branco: Which VEJA suits you?

The Campo is the best choice if you’re looking for the cleanest and most versatile everyday sneaker. The V-90 offers more volume and a stronger retro-sportswear look.

The V-82 feels slimmer and sportier than the V-90 and sits visually between court and retro. The Rio Branco, by contrast, is the clearly more runner-inspired option with a lighter and more technical construction.

Materials at VEJA: organic cotton, Amazonian rubber, and ChromeFree leather

VEJA uses different materials depending on the model. Organic cotton is used, among other things, for canvas and laces, while Amazonian rubber is part of many outsoles. Recycled polyester, bio-based EVA, suede, and different types of leather are also used.

One of the best-known materials is ChromeFree leather, which is used in many Campo versions, for example. According to VEJA, the leather comes from southern Brazil and Uruguay and is processed locally in selected tanneries. The aim of the process is to avoid certain problematic substances and reduce the use of water and chemicals during tanning.

The exact material composition does, however, vary depending on the model and version. If a certain upper or sole material is important to you, always check the product details of the individual colourway.

New VEJA colourways and models

VEJA regularly develops its existing silhouettes with new colours and material combinations. Campo, V-90, V-82, and Rio Branco appear in different leather, suede, mesh, and textile versions, while models such as Volley or Panenka add further court- and football-inspired shapes to the range.
