Reebok Club C 85 Vintage
Reebok Club C 85 Vintage
For Reebok, tradition and authenticity have top priority: instead of focusing on fancy, futuristic models, the makers of Reebok prefer to stay true to their roots and present the Club 85, the next classic from the 80s.
To the delight of retro fans, the sneaker has hardly changed visually compared to the 1985 model, but there has been no lack of new technical features. Reebok equips the classic with an Eva midsole for optimal cushioning and an abrasion-resistant rubber for reliable grip.
Reebok Club C 85 – Centre Courtlegend since 1985
Tennis in the 80s - probably the best of all times. The time when the thrill of tense tiebreaks entered everyone's living room. Tennis legends like John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Stefan Edberg and Björn Borg took the game of tennis to a new level in the 80s, catapulting tennis from country clubs and estates to arenas in London, New York and Melbourne. Oh, and let's not forget Boris Becker's legendary Wimbledon victory in 1986, when also another legend was born - the Reebok Club C 85!
To tell the story of this court legend, we will go back to the 1980s. Reebok was especially popular in the fitness and aerobics scene in the 1980s. With models like the Reebok Freestyle and a celebrity appearance in an aerobics video by actress Jane Fonda, the brand quickly gained a lot of attention. Then, in 1984, Reebok entered the tennis business for the first time, launching its first tennis shoe - the Phase I. Underrated and somehow shortchanged, the Reebok Club C 85 was designed in 1985 and was first allowed to prove its agility and perfection on red clay and English artificial turf in 1986. Reebok titled the shoe at the time as a durable performance tennis shoe for the club player.
The C stands for Champion
At first glance, the Club C with its striking outsole seam and 14-hole laces reminded us of the Stan Smith from adidas or the Tennis Classic John McEnroe from Nike. And here we are with another special feature: as one of the few tennis shoes of the 80s, the Club C does not have a prominent namesake. At the time, Reebok didn't realize the enormous image potential of sponsoring a world-ranked player. However, as Club C has shown, it does not need a prominent name sponsor. By the way, the C in Club C stands for Champion - and it definitely is!
From center court to the street
Initially, the Club C 85 in classic colors like white and navy was only available in men's sizes. Since July 1993, the tennis shoe has also been available in women's sizes. In the same year, the Club C and the Club C Canvas were officially classified as Classics instead of falling into the tennis shoe category. With that, the tennis shoe from the 80s was officially off the tennis court and found its way into the closets of trendsetters. Today, the Reebok Club C 85 is more popular than ever. A classic, simple and white sneaker, it can be worn with anything. A very popular model that is still available today is the Club C 85 Vintage. This model was released in 2016 to celebrate its 30th anniversary and has been a huge success ever since. Despite its long history, this vintage shoe has remained an icon over the decades. The Reebok Classic campaign "Never gets old" from 1992 describes this shoe perfectly: "Time passes. Looks change. Fashions die. But some things never get old“.
Reebok Club C 85 – pure lifestyle
The clean silhouette of the Club C 85 and its unique look have helped it to become a real lifestyle highlight. Whether women's or men's models - the Reebok Club C 85 can be combined with a wide variety of looks. The court legend makes for a business suit as well as a casual everyday look with a t-shirt and jeans. Both old Club C 85 fans and fans of the new fashion generation enjoy the trendy sneaker. So it's not surprising that collabos with London-based Palace Skateboards, Copenhagen-based sneaker boutique Naked or Boston-based Concepts Store have been made. Club C 85 has put another exclamation point in a collaboration with US rapper Kendrick Lamar. In 2017, Kendrick Lamar takes the classic tennis silhouette and transformed it into a denim version washed out of black and white. A real highlight of the Club C family.
