Nike Commemorates the Parisian Centre Pompidou, which initially inspired Tinker Hatfield’s Air Max 1 design.
When Centre Pompidou first opened in Paris back in 1977, many reviled its radical design. The architects to blame were Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers who intended to develop the polarizing structure inside out. For one, it’s packed with utilitarian qualities such as pipes, air vents, and electrical cables that make up its external facade. The structure, which is home to a slew of cutting-edge art exhibitions, garnered acclamation over the years and shifted the perception of the architecture industry as a whole. One of its admirers is Tinker Hatfield who credits the establishment for inspiring his Air Max 1 design.
